Ali FitzGibbon is a programmer and producer with over 20 years’ experience in professional arts practice.
She has been Director of Young at Art since 2003, an international children’s arts organisation and annual festival, establishing its commercial trading arm agency in 2010. Her background is predominantly in performing arts and spans theatre (mainstage and touring, theatre for young and adult audiences, youth and community theatre), dance, circus and large-scale, outdoor and site-specific events. She has also worked extensively in education, training and audience development projects in all artforms. Previous work has been with organisations including Replay Productions, the Lyric Theatre, Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast Circus School and Community Arts Forum; in Cork, the Everyman Palace Theatre, Graffiti Theatre Company, Cork VEC and Cork AIDS Alliance.
Ali is an experienced board member. She was a founding board member of the Irish Theatre Institute (formerly Theatre Shop) and served on its board for ten years. She was Chair of Play Resource Centre, Belfast for 3 years. She also contributed to national executive committees of TYA UK (the UK centre of the International Assoc of Theatre for Young Audiences) and the equality committee of ITC, the Independent Theatre Council.
She studied at UCC in English Lit and Italian and over the years has undertaken further qualifications in Cultural Management and Social Enterprise, both at University of Ulster. She is fluent in Italian and French.
She works on a freelance basis as a mentor and trainer and has acted as an advisor and campaigner on arts policy in Northern Ireland and the UK throughout her working life.
